| Raccoon
- Mischievous, inquisitive, bold, playful; These masked
bandits are persistent and tireless, and love to entertain.
At home both in treetops and in burrows under the tree,
they are able to adapt and take advantage of the best nature
has to offer. Extremely curious, raccoons leave no stone
unturned. They love adventure and lead us down the road
of new discoveries. Strong and muscular the raccoon can
hold its ground in most all situations and teaches us to
do the same. It is said when one appears in your life, “faces
of self” are about to be revealed. Sharing the title
of the “janitor of the forest”, the raccoon
is good for our ecosystem, and keeps things tidy and healthy
for us all! The raccoon is one of natures creatures with
whom we are most familiar and as a Raccoon donor, you will
become a key supporter of the daily rehabilitation efforts
at AWARE. |

| Hummingbird
- Quick, brave, endurance, beauty; Hummingbirds bring many
gifts. This energetic little bird can fly 2700 miles to
migrate in winter. They show us how to go the distance without
becoming depleted, by flapping their wings at the fantastic
rate of 90 beats per second. They have excellent maneuverability
in flight and can hover in the air, fly backward, forward
and sideways. Hummingbirds have the advantage of seeing
things from all angles and can show us how to expand our
perceptions. This creature serves to remind us of the beauty
and wonder of the world. While their speed and sound may
sometimes startle us, they help pull our attention out of
the mundane so that we can acknowledge and appreciate the
beauty of creation. Create your own beauty by insuring the
endurance of AWARE through your contribution as does the
Hummingbird. |

| Alligator
Snapping Turtle - Ferocious, impenetrable, patient, glider;
The Alligator Snapper shields herself from the outside world,
is protective of her territory, and yet moves gracefully
and with stillness and reverence in action. Unlike her sister
the tortoise, she is aquatic and able to move freely in
her boggy, watery habitat. In myth and folklore, turtles
and tortoises represent determination and longevity. With
a shell adorned in medieval armor, she appears prehistoric
and challenging and the weight of her shell keeps her from
moving too fast. However, the heaviness of her hind legs
gives her strength to carry heavy loads. She is said to
be the most sensitive to the environment of all animals,
and has the strongest connection to the earth. It has been
said if you associate with these creatures, you too carry
the loads of others as burdens of “self”. The
turtle feels the vibrations within the earth and water and
reacts strongly to them. By observing her behavior we are
forewarned of any imbalances within the earth's core before
an actual change occurs. This helps us prepare for geophysical
changes in a balanced way. Find the sensitivity of the Alligator
Snapping Turtle within yourself to help AWARE in its mission
to educate the public about our environment and its wild
inhabitants. |

| Bobcat
- Skillful, acrobat, fast, stealth. This cat is a magnificent
animal that holds an “air of independence and confidence”.
Solitary animals, they are said to represent those with
natural athletic abilities, with cunning qualities to help
in urban survival. Often mistaken for an extra large house
cat, “out mousing around”, they possess far
more “wild skills” and hunting abilities which
puts them on the top of the feline food chain. A compact
version of muscles and power, their agility allows them
to travel great distances, as much as 50 miles in search
of food. Bobcats are primarily nocturnal hunters and hold
the teachings of focus, patience and surprise. Their night
vision is six times better than that of humans and they
can teach us to observe the night world through a different
set of eyes. The power, skillfulness and vitality of the
Bobcat can activate the same components within us. Bobcats
are under more and more pressure for habitat loss due to
deforestation, loss of water sources, and pesticides. Consider
supporting AWARE in its vital role as a center for treatment
for our wild friends with the strength of the Bobcat. |

| Fox
- Energetic, light footed, wiley, hunter; All fox share
similar traits of extreme cleverness and cunning that gave
rise to the expression, "sly as a fox." Fox speaks
of the need to develop the art of camouflage, invisibility,
something referred to as “shape shifting”; (appearing
as if they are under brush, leaves or grasses). It is agile
and skillful, able to break the trail of its scent and outwit
both predators and prey. Fox teaches us how to slip out
of unpleasant situations quietly and unnoticed. Those of
us that associate with the fox are often clever and witty
but must remember to keep our crafty and clever nature “in
balance” or it could backfire. Fox can also suggest
that our actions might be too obvious and we need to learn
to be more discreet. Fox is one of the most uniquely skilled
and ingenious animals of nature. It can move in and out
of situations restoring order or causing confusion depending
on the situation. Foxes in Georgia have become increasingly
more common sights in our daily lives. This is due to urban
sprawl and habitat loss. They are also one of the most adaptable
of our urban critters and for that reason they have the
staying power we all seek. Please become a Bobcat donor
and insure AWARE’s staying power. |

| Eagle
- Majestic, fearless, soaring, visual acuity, powerful;
A protected bird by US law, eagle feathers are said to have
many unusual powers, and are used in healing ceremonies
and revered specifically by many Native American tribes.
As the most majestic raptor, they command attention with
their powerful presence as they float and inspect the planet
from far above. Perhaps they are showing us how to move
through life without becoming attached to anything. The
eagle is incredibly patient, often seen perched in a tree
maintaining the same position for hours, thus teaching the
art of patience for our own lives. Within the energy of
patience "all things are possible." Eagle shows
us how to accept what comes our way and helps us to see
everything as a gift. Eagles have a sharp beak, strong jaws
and razor sharp talons. With excellent vision, they are
able to observe everything, revealing the potent gifts of
clarity and vision right before us. They serve as an important
animal symbol for the United States, and should also remind
us of our freedom and wealth in all we have. Eagle donors
make it entirely possible for AWARE to become a centerpiece
for environmental education and wildlife rehabilitation
in the southeast. |
